Hi guys,
While I was searching for examples of mass customization, the first that came up in my mind were cakes. There are moments when you don’t want a cake designed by the bakery, for example: on birthdays, weddings, baby showers and so on. These are moments when you want your own creation. There are bakeries that give the option to design your own cake.
When you design your own cake, the starting point is sponge cake, Mud Cake or Ice Cream Cake. The starting points are important because consumers don’t always have the appropriate knowledge to bake a delicious cake. If they also have to choose the ingredients, they might get disappointed by the results. There are a lot of things you can choose by yourself, so even with the starting points the consumers have the feeling that they did it by themselves. This way you involve the customers.
Cake Biz, has a website where you can create your own cake. You can choose the shape of the cake, the size, your favorite cake filling, whether you want a personal image or message on the top of the cake or not and so on.
You can have a look at the website http://www.cakebiz.com.au/ and create your own cake. I think Cake Biz gives an opportunity to design your own cake. I definitely want to make use of it. What do you think about this?
Very nice example of mass customization! I do not prefer the current website interface, as mass customization has evolved a lot, but I would definitely give it a try!
